Coastal Community Development

The Coastal Community Development Program’s (CCD) goal is to establish sustainable development as the fundamental principle for the use and development of our coasts.  CCD works with coastal communities, NGOs, government agencies, the private sector, and the general public to promote capacity building in areas of sustainable economic development, smart growth and coastal resources conservation.

Coastal communities are experiencing the impacts of urban sprawl due to increasing population growth, accelerated development in our coastal areas, and lack of effective planning. CCD works with communities to encourage the conservation and protection of our natural and coastal resources through sustainable development.  Sustainable development promotes the wise use of natural resources along with improving economic development.  CCD provides capacity building/training for new technologies and tools available for planning, smart growth, urban sprawl, and sustainable economic development.
