Laboratory Experiences
Los laboratorios le brindarán al estudiante la oportunidad de estudiar, de observar y de ampliar sus conocimientos sobre diferentes conceptos marinos. Los laboratorios están diseñados para estudiantes de los niveles K-12.
All the laboratory activities will be carried out in the Marine Biology Laboratory in the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao Campus. A maximum of 20 participants is required. La escuela es responsable de la transportación. La actividad es libre de costo.

Laboratorio: Calentamiento global (3 hrs.) Comenzando en agosto 2012
Los participantes podrán conocer y estudiar las causas y consecuencias del calentamiento global. Mediante laboratorios sencillos, entenderán el efecto de invernadero, su importancia para el Planeta y la manera en que el Planeta está siendo alterado por las emisiones de CO2. |

Laboratory: Set Adrift! (3 hours)
Discover the fascinating world of organisms that go adrift. We collect a sample of plankton from Punta Santiago pier and then it is transported to the laboratory to be studied and identified. Students will become familiar with the use of microscopes, laboratory techniques, and the identification of these organisms using simple taxonomic keys.

Laboratory: Biology and Classification of Fish (3 hours)
Participants will study the mosphology and characteristics of fish. They will identify some species of fish using a dichotomous key. They will also learn the importance of the taxonomic classification of species. |

Laboratory: Sand: A Treasure Beneath our Feet (3 hours)
Participants will learn the origins of sand, as well as the reason for the variation in the characteristics (size, composition, texture, etc.) of the grains of sand in Puerto Rican beaches and their importance for the conservation and wise use of this natural resource. |

Laboratory: Marine Invertebrates (3 hours)
Participants will study and become acquainted with the most common marine invertebrates found in Puerto Rico through educational activities during the laboratory. A brief introduction on the classification process and the characteristics that identify each species will be provided. |

Laboratory: Botánica Marina (3 hours)
Los participantes podrán conocer y estudiar las macro algas marinas comunes en nuestras playas. Reconocerán los grupos principales mediante sus características generales y montarán en seco un espécimen durante el laboratorio.
