Laboratory Experience : All laboratory programs take place in the Marine Biology Laboratory of the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao beginning in August. Maximum of 20 students.

Laboratory: Drifting Organisms (3 hrs.) Discover the fascinating world of the organisms that drift in the ocean. We will collect a sample of plankton from the Punta Santiago dock and bring it to the laboratory to study and identify. Students will gain experience in the use of microscopes, laboratory techniques and the identification of these organisms using simple taxonomic keys.

Laboratory: Fish Biology and Classification (3 hrs.) Participants will study the morphology and characteristics of fish. They will identify some fish species using a dichotomous key. Students will learn the importance of species taxonomic classification.
